Guillem Ramis, 57, former cyclist and current driver for the Illes Balears-Arabay continental team, died in a tragic incident that forced the organization to shorten the fourth stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.
Race interrupted due to a “serious incident”
Originally, Sunday’s stage was scheduled to end in Vall d’Ebo. However, the organization decided at the last minute to bring the finish line forward by 15 kilometers, to the top of Alto del Miserat.
The decision was made due to a ‘serious incident’, which was later revealed to be the death of a spectator. Despite efforts to revive Ramis, which included the arrival of a trauma helicopter, he unfortunately did not survive. The incident occurred close to the original arrival location in Vall d’Ebo.
Guillem Ramis was 3x Spanish track champion
Although Guillem Ramis never turned professional, he had a distinguished career as a cyclist. In his youth, he won a stage in the Vuelta a Orense and won the Spanish Team Pursuit Championship three times on the track.
Until his death, Ramis had been working as a driver for the Continental Illes Balears-Arabay team.
