Giacomo Nizzolo did not end the year 2023 as he would have liked. The Italian cyclist fractured his tibia in an accident on December 23. His new employer, Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team, reported this on the team’s website.
Nizzolo, the European Road Champion in 2020, underwent surgery in Chur, Switzerland, after the accident. Four days later, he was allowed to leave the hospital. “The healing and rehabilitation process has already begun,” says Lorenz Emmert, the team doctor.
“We are optimistic that we can return him to his previous level of performance in the coming months, as soon as possible.”
Cause of the accident not revealed
The cause of the accident, in which Nizzolo fractured his leg, has not been disclosed. It is also unclear how long he will be out of action, but he will at least miss the team’s Training Camp, scheduled to take place between January 11 and 22.
Nizzolo, 34, moved from Israel-Premier Tech to Q36.5 this season. He signed a contract with the Swiss team until the end of 2025.
