Filippo Ganna is currently in his seventh year as a professional cyclist and is about to make his debut in the Vuelta a España. The Italian will have the opportunity to showcase his abilities in a team time trial on a flat route, as well as an individual time trial stage.
After a setback at the World Championships, Filippo Ganna is determined to reclaim his winning reputation while also supporting the overall aspirations of INEOS Grenadiers.
“I’m very excited to start my first Vuelta and I hope to make a significant contribution to the team’s success,” the Italian said in a press statement. “I had a good year, but it was disappointing to have to withdraw from the Giro d’Italia due to illness, and that gave me more motivation before the last Grand Tour of the year.”
Unfortunately, a similar situation seems to repeat for him during the Vuelta. He had to abandon the Giro before the second time trial, which would have been more favorable to his style, but he managed to bounce back by clinching the national time trial title and also winning two stages at the Tour de Wallonie.
However, in the Vuelta, he will also be supporting the team. Geraint Thomas arrives with the status of captain, while names like Thymen Arensman, Egan Bernal, and Laurens de Plus might also be in the team’s plans for the General Classification.
“We have a very strong group, so the morale will be high, and we’ll be ready to give our best for the greatest possible success. At the beginning, we’ll have the Team Time Trial, which presents an immediate great opportunity for us. I know I’ll have a crucial role for our success, so I’m really looking forward to the challenge and to putting up a great race,” concludes Ganna.
