Alec Segaert became the European Time Trial Champion on Wednesday afternoon by covering the 20.6 km course in 22 minutes and 2 seconds, with an average speed of 56 km/h. The Belgian specialist in this discipline won with a 38-second lead over the 2nd-placed Danish rider, Carl-Frederik Bévort. “I started with a good feeling, and everything went naturally,” he said with a smile in a conversation with the Belgian TV channel Sporza.
“I must say I had a very good day,” Segaert said. “I could easily reach my power. At the first intermediate point, I immediately had a big advantage, and I didn’t feel like I was going to crack. So, if I could keep up my performance, I knew it could be a great day,” concluded the Belgian.
The Portuguese rider António Morgado, only 19 years old, who will be João Almeida’s teammate at UAE Team Emirates in 2024, had a good race, finishing in 20th place.
