Egan Bernal came close to winning the Colombian road cycling title this Sunday, but the INEOS Grenadiers athlete was unable to overcome Alejandro Osorio, who had escaped earlier. However, after the race, Bernal showed no signs of disappointment.
Several World Tour cyclists present
A third place in the Colombian Championship, where 12 World Tour cyclists were present, is more than a boost for Bernal, after two difficult years. He has already won the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France in his career, and is still searching for his old form, following a serious accident during training in January 2022.
His return has been marked by ups and downs, but on Sunday, he delivered a performance at the Colombian National Road Championships that was reminiscent of Egan Bernal from the 2019 Tour de France.

Nostalgic feelings
“During the race, I had nostalgic feelings, as I felt like I was the old Egan again. I decided that I would give my all, regardless of being defeated.”
“We just kept accelerating on each climb. This is how I always ran, without fear. I think it was the first time I ran without fear again,” he said after the Colombian Championship.
