Dylan Groenewegen took his first victory on European soil, in the 2024 road racing season, after winning the Clássica Comunitat Valenciana in the final sprint.
The 40th edition of the Clássica Comunitat Valenciana was concluded in a sprint this Saturday afternoon in Valencia. After more than four hours of racing, Dylan Groenewegen of Team Jayco AlUla beat Bryan Coquard of Cofidis. Tim Torn Teutenberg of Lidl-Trek Future Racing.
The competition was attended by the Portuguese team Sabgal/Anicolor, which had an international squad in the competition, with André Carvalho, recently hired from Cofidis, as captain. In addition to them, the Portuguese Rui Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates) was also present in the race, with a significant 9th place in the final classification.

Escape was reached 16km from the finish
After the start, a trail with 16 cyclists formed. The escape managed to open up more than 2 minutes of the field. However, the peloton became compact with 15km to the finish. Thus, the teams with the main sprinters had time to position them.
Groenewegen took his position a kilometer and a half from the finish, as part of the Jayco AlUla train.
Chaotic last km
The last kilometer was chaotic, but Groenewegen managed to free himself and crossed the finish line in 1st place, ahead of Bryan Coquard (Cofidis) and Tim Torn Teutenberg (Lidl-Trek Future Racing) on the streets of Valencia.
