Domenico Pozzovivo is one of the most veteran members of the World Tour, but as the 40-year-old cyclist approaches the end of his contract with Israel-Premier Tech, retirement may be drawing near.
“I still don’t have a contract for next year. After my last race this year, we will analyze it in more detail with my staff,” said the experienced Italian to the Dutch website WielerFlits, admitting that, at the moment, there isn’t much interest in his services. “There aren’t many discussions. It is certainly possible that I might retire. Honestly? I still have the legs and motivation to continue, but if that doesn’t work out, I will stop.”
Domenico Pozzovivo has 13 professional wins and an impressive total of 24 Grand Tours, which include a notable 17 appearances in the Giro d’Italia. He possesses a wealth of experience to pass on to the next generation of cyclists. This isn’t the first time he has faced difficulties securing a contract, having waited until March of this year before receiving the call from Israel – Premier Tech. However, this time, he doesn’t plan to wait as long.
“No, not… We will probably make that choice at the end of October. If I have a contract, I’ll continue. Otherwise, I’ll retire,” he explains. “Because of that injury at the end of July, I still have the desire to race in these last few weeks. I came back at the Giro dell’Emilia, and my form is improving.”
