In modern cycling, organizers are always looking for even more challenging climbs to test the riders’ legs. When the pros don’t seem to be going that fast, you know: it’s too steep.
Amateur cyclists can only (who knows) climb with a Mountain Bike setup. Especially in the Giro and Vuelta, the organization likes to push the limits. However, the Tour de France seems to be gradually following the same path.
