There is just over a month left until the start of Jonas Vingegaard’s season. The Danish cyclist from Visma-Lease a Bike returns this year to do his first race of the season, in Spain, in the 4-stage race, The Gran Camino, which will take place from the 22nd to the 25th of February.
Sports director does not hide his optimism
Vingegaard is preparing for a season where, of course, the Tour de France is once again the main objective and the sporting director of the Dutch team, Frans Maassen, reported to the Danish website Ekstra Bladet, how Vingegaard was in his first Training Camp with the team .
“He did really well in training camp. He trained with all the boys in Spain. He’s in good shape. We are happy with what we saw.”
“We send all the boys who are still going to altitude training home a little early so they can spend two weeks with their family before they have to go to altitude training camp for three weeks.”
Competing against Primoz Roglic will be strange
“Jonas had a fantastic year, so we expect a lot from him again. He is one of the favorites on the Tour. We hope to do it again, but of course it won’t be easy with Pogacar, Evenepoel and Roglic.”
The biggest competitor for the Tour throne is, of course, Tadej Pogacar again, but for Vingegaard it will be a new task to also have to compete against former teammate Primoz Roglic.
“It will be strange when he competes against us. Now he’s one of our big opponents, so it won’t be easy, but we’re looking forward to it.”
