Søren Kragh Andersen and Arne Marit didn’t come out unscathed after the semi-classic Paris-Bourges. Both had a hard fall just after the finish, following Arnaud De Lie’s tubular tire explosion and chain coming off. De Lie managed to stay on his feet by reflex, but Kragh Andersen and Marit couldn’t avoid him and crashed hard.
Alpecin-Deceuninck reports that Søren Kragh Andersen suffered a mild concussion. His fifth-place finish in Bourges also marks the end of his season, as due to this injury, the Danish classics specialist cannot start in Paris-Tours on Sunday. SKA managed to win that race in 2018. Lennert Belmans has been called up as his replacement.
Arne Marit finished seventh and ended up in the hospital after the fall at the finish line. His team Intermarché-Circus-Wanty announced that Marit hadn’t broken anything. However, he was taken for a check-up with a neck collar. “Everything is going well, but for me, this means the end of the season,” Marit wrote on his social media.
The victory in Paris-Bourges went to Arnaud Démare (Arkéa-Samsic), who was slightly faster than Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Dstny).
