In the tumultuous third stage of the Tour Down Under, with several cyclists falling. Groupama-FDJ was affected, with Rudy Molard being forced to abandon the competition, which mainly involved cyclists from the Astana Qazaqstan Team.
The accident
With just under ten kilometers to go, before the third stage to Campbelltown, at least three Astana cyclists fell: Christian Scaroni, Samuele Battistella and Michele Gazzoli. The three Italians returned and managed to reach the finish line, but then had to visit the team doctor for a medical examination.
Rudy Molard wasn’t as lucky
However, Frenchman Rudy Molard of Groupama FDJ was hit hard by the crash. In a post, the team clarifies the cyclist’s situation.
“After a fall, Rudy Molard is forced to abandon the Tour Down Under. He suffered a concussion and suffered multiple injuries. Molard must remain under observation for the next 24 hours.”
