Argentinian Juan Pablo Dotti, aged 39, has been provisionally suspended by the UCI after returning an adverse doping test while participating in the Glasgow World Championships.
Dotti, a former Argentine national time trial champion, did not achieve a strong result in Glasgow, finishing 45th in the individual time trial, over seven minutes behind the winner Remco Evenepoel. Nevertheless, Dotti’s routine doping control revealed EPO CERA in his circulatory system.
While Dotti obviously has the option to appeal the UCI’s findings, the chances of a successful appeal are minimal. EPO CERA is only found in systems under highly suspicious circumstances. Dotti is also 39 years old, and this incident may potentially mark the end of his cycling career.
