Tiesj Benoot expressed his support for his new teammate, Cian Uijtdebroeks. During the presentation of the Visma-Lease a Bike team, the talented young rider was already present, and shortly thereafter, the news of the completion of Uijtdebroeks’ transfer was announced. Benoot, who observed the transfer saga from the outside, felt the need to comment: “He has many challenges ahead.”
Appeal to the press
“I would especially like to appeal to the press to attack less,” said Benoot to the Belgian channel Sporza. “He is 20 years old and has a lot to deal with. You can’t understand what a young cyclist has to deal with on social media. We often talk about mental well-being, but that is forgotten here. I hope this doesn’t bother him too much.”
The situation seems to have concluded now that the teams have finally reached an agreement on the transfer of the young Belgian. The UCI has also given official approval for Uijtdebroeks’ transfer from January 1, 2024.
Best team
Benoot met his new teammate at a Training Camp and is looking forward to working together next season, even though the two may not race much together. “As a young rider, he’s in the best team to develop. He was warmly welcomed here,” concluded Benoot.
