The second stage of the Tour de la Provence took place on Friday afternoon, with a lot of rain and wind. The rain didn’t let up from the start until the finish line.
Six cyclists on the run
Six cyclists tried to warm up a little by forming the escape of the day. They were Frenchmen Alexis Gougeard (Cofidis), Thomas Bonnet (TotalEnergies), Kévin Avoine (Van Rysel-Roubaix), Jonathan Couanon (Nice Métropole Côte d’Azur), Alexis Guerin (Philippe Wagner/Bazin) and Canadian Robin Plamondon (CIC U Nantes Atlântico).
And Kévin Avoine starred in the landmark moment of the escape. He was very lucky not to have fallen on the slippery road surface. The Frenchman skidded over a hole in the road, fell onto the bike’s frame, swaying from left to right, but ended up managing to control the bike without any major consequences.
