Cian Uijtdebroeks is leaving BORA-Hansgrohe, according to a French journalist

BORA-Hansgrohe announced major news today with the signing of Primoz Roglic. However, there are rumors that one of their other leaders, Cian Uijtdebroeks, may be leaving the German team after a dispute during the Vuelta a España with Aleksandr Vlasov.

With Roglic joining the team, Uijtdebroeks’ role may diminish, but he is certainly a priority for the team. Last year’s Tour de l’Avenir winner had a fantastic season this year with incredible consistency, achieving Top 10 results in the Tour of Oman, Vuelta a Catalunya, Tour de Romandie, Tour de Suisse, and Vuelta a España. He is a rider with a bright future who is likely to attract the interest of many teams if he chooses to leave the German team.

Cian Uijtdebroeks during the Vuelta a España 2023.

He has a contract until 2024. However, during the Vuelta a España, he spoke about how in the last week Aleksandr Vlasov was trying to finish ahead of him, even though they were both fighting for seventh place. Eventually, the Russian succeeded, but this episode led to an unusual situation within the team, and it seemed evident that the leaders were not working towards a common goal.

Whether this would be a reason to leave or not is uncertain. Although relatively vague, French journalist Charles Marsault, Editor-in-Chief of the Velo-Club.net website, reports that several sources have indicated that Uijtdebroeks wants to leave the German team, and Groupama-FDJ would be a potential candidate for his signing.
