Chris Froome casts doubt on his retirement: “It’s not 100% certain that I will stop at the end of 2025”

Chris Froome persists in his journey with incredible motivation. However, he clarifies that his quest is personal, expressing gratitude for the second chance that the sport has granted him. The year 2025 is not ruled out as his final season in competitions, suggesting that he may continue cycling in the peloton beyond that period.

“It’s not 100% certain that I will stop at the end of 2025; it depends a lot on how I’ll be by then. But doing 2024 and 2025 is the minimum,” Froome stated in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. He has a contract with the Israeli team until the end of 2025, but he doesn’t specify a date for hanging up the wheels.

Tour de France remains the main objective

In 2024, his vision is also clear: “At this moment, the Giro d’Italia option is not on the table. The main objective remains the Tour de France, and in the best possible form.”

Froome faced challenges during the 2023 season, and one of them was regarding small adjustments to his bike settings. Team manager Sylvan Adams expressed criticism of the Briton, questioning the bike changes and stating that he would not include him in Grand Tour competitions.

“I actually talk a lot with Sylvan. But I understand the question. It’s easy to get the wrong idea when certain comments come up in the media,” he said. “Honestly, much of what he said was exaggerated. But the reality is that we are very united. There are no issues between us.”

Motivation from Personal Results

“I can completely understand that perspective, but can I explain my point of view? What I’m doing now, I’m doing for myself and no one else. Not for the fans, not for the journalists.”

“I never look at my past with all the victories. I risked my life and had to start from scratch, learning to walk again. I had a second chance, and anything else that comes is a bonus. I continue to pursue my dreams, and for that, I am grateful to the team I’m in. I want to finish without regrets.”
