Merijn Zeeman CEO of Visma Lease a Bike revealed that he is happy that RedBull has now truly committed to cycling as a sponsor. The brand has been a well-known face in sport for years, but cycling has so far only involved individual sponsorships.
Red Bull and BORA-Hansgrohe
RedBull is taking a good step by joining BORA-hansgrohe, says the sporting director of Visma-Lease a Bike. “It depends on what their strategy is and what exactly they want, but it is very good news for the sport that the big companies are stepping in,” Zeeman told British website GCN.
“This says a lot about the position of cycling as a sport in the world. I think Red Bull have been a little cautious in the past, with cycling’s history of doping. But now they believe that the sport is in a good situation and this is a result of the great fight against doping.”
“A signal to other big companies,” says Zeeman, who also has two big sponsors on his team: Visma and Lease a Bike. “If Red Bull does come in, it’s clear they think cycling can grow. This is good news for all of us”, concludes Zeeman.
