In what is quickly becoming Ben Healy’s trademark, the Irish cyclist from EF Education-EasyPost secured a solo victory after a long attack in the 3rd stage of the Tour de Luxembourg, taking the overall race lead. The cyclist spoke about his victory and the prospects for the time trial on Wednesday after the race.
“We had two leaders today. We had Richard Carapaz and me. Trying from a distance is my strong point, so that was the plan for me,” Healy said in his post-stage interview. “It was perfect because we still had Richard nearby. But today, I had the legs to keep going.”
One of the rising stars in professional cycling in 2023, Healy quickly became a beloved figure for his attacking and entertaining style. Securing a victory at the Giro d’Italia earlier this year, the Irish national championship, and a podium at the Amstel Gold Race clearly demonstrated his potential.
Amidst the wind and rain of the 3rd stage in Luxembourg, Healy thrived once again. “I don’t think anyone really likes it, but I do. It certainly doesn’t make me ride slower,” he laughed. “Now, I’m focusing on the time trial this Saturday. I want to keep the leader’s jersey. I’m confident and have a good buffer.”
