Led by Mikel Landa and Santiago Buitrago, the Bahrain Victorious team is poised for the upcoming edition of Vuelta a España. The inclusion of Wout Poels brings a Dutch touch to the Middle Eastern lineup. Another notable presence will be the experienced Italian rider Damiano Caruso on the Bahrain team.

The participation of Mikel Landa in Vuelta a España after the Tour de France was previously suggested a few weeks ago by the Spanish sports newspaper AS. The 33-year-old climber has spent the recent period in Tenerife to prepare for the Vuelta.
“We are eager to contend for a spot on the podium,” stated Sports Director Neil Stephens. “It’s going to be tough work, given the high level of our competitors.”
“Mikel is a strong GC rider and is looking forward to a good end to the season with Bahrain Victorious,” said Stephens. Buitrago will once again act as a second leader. “Santiago is our rising star. He has already won impressive mountain stages in major races, but he still needs to prove his worth as a general classification rider. He’s in his best form and excited to achieve a good placement in the Vuelta.” Caruso, who ranked fourth in the last Giro, will also contribute experience at 35 years old.
