Astana Qazaqstan Team is on the brink of embarking on the Vuelta a España this coming Saturday without a sprinter or a leader contending for the overall classification. The Kazakhstani squad boasts a range of cyclists who have the opportunity to secure stage victories right from the outset of the race. Among these riders, Luis Léon Sánchez and David de la Cruz will be present, among others. Both of them withdrew from the Tour de France and only watched the competition unfold.
De la Cruz avoided fractures in his crash during the 12th stage of the Tour de France, but he was unable to continue. He hasn’t participated since then. Sánchez suffered a broken collarbone in an early-stage crash at the Tour. He recently made his comeback at the Vuelta a Burgos. The seasoned cyclist will mark his 31st Grand Tour appearance in this Vuelta a España.
As for Javier Romo, aged 24, the upcoming Vuelta marks his maiden Grand Tour appearance. In the aforementioned Vuelta a Burgos, the Spaniard secured a seventh-place finish in the general classification. Alongside Samuele Battistella, Joe Dombrowski, Fabio Felline, Andrey Zeits, and Vadim Pronskiy, the Kazakhstani team is fully primed for the Spanish challenge.
