Ethan Hayter took a brilliant victory on the Omnium at the European Track Cycling Championships this Saturday in Apeldoorn.
The victory marks a reclaiming of the Omnium title that Hayter won in 2019. “It was obviously very close, I hadn’t planned for it to be that close or to control myself,” the INEOS Grenadiers star reflected afterwards.
“From the beginning I felt like it was very tactical, but in the sprints I had the advantage, so I started scoring and the guys were marking themselves a little bit and I just focused on getting points.”
Second gold for Hayter
As with INEOS engineer Dan Bigham, who won the individual and team pursuits, Hayter also helped Great Britain’s pursuit team win gold earlier in the week.
“It feels really good to win as a team, it was a really good feeling,” says Hayter about this victory. “I haven’t raced on the track for over a year, I was ahead in the team chase the whole time, it was a shock, so it’s really good to get two wins. It was a great week”, concluded the Brit.
