Søren Waerenskjold (Uno-X Mobility) won the second stage in Saudi Arabia. After a stage of almost 200 km, with an uphill finish, the young Norwegian was faster in a reduced field. Henok Mulubrhan (Astana Qazaqstan) came second, ahead of Nils Eekhoff (dsm-firmenich PostNL). Waerenskjold is the new leader of the General Classification.
Escape of the day with 5 athletes
A group of five cyclists led the day’s escape. When the escape was achieved there was a battle as the full platoon faced the steep slopes of the Sharaan Nature Reserve.
On the final climb towards the finish line, several cyclists accelerated trying to break the group, starting with Pierre Latour, including Rafal Majka, Finn Fisher-Black and Simon Yates. However, it was Uno-X Mobility’s Søren Wærenskjold who triumphed in the end, securing victory.
