On this Saturday, December 30, during a training session in Murcia, Alejandro Valverde had an accident and fractured his collarbone. The 43-year-old Spaniard retired from professional road cycling in 2022 and transitioned to Gravel and Mountain Bike events.
Valverde hospitalized
Valverde was admitted to La Vega hospital after the accident, where the collarbone injury was confirmed, and he will be sidelined for several weeks. It remains to be seen whether he will compete in the next event on his schedule, the Spanish Mountain Bike Championship, set to take place on February 4, 2024, and the Cape Epic in South Africa in March.
Cyclist to undergo surgery
As for the start of the recovery, Alejandro Valverde is now at home, awaiting surgery at the Mesa del Castillo hospital in Murcia with the arrival of the New Year.
While he has recovered quickly from injuries in the past, with just over a month left before these two new goals, it will be challenging for the Spaniard to achieve his best form.
