Adam Yates defeats Pavel Sivakov and wins the Montreal Grand Prix

During the Canadian classic, riders had to complete 18 challenging laps in Montreal, totaling 221.4 kilometers and 4,418 meters of accumulated elevation gain. The highlight was the Côte de Camilien-Houde (2.3 km, 6.2%), which had to be climbed on each lap.

Rain was falling heavily at the start in Montreal and for a significant part of the race. After several solo attacks, Michael Matthews launched an attack 15 kilometers from the finish. The peloton had already significantly reduced in size after these successive earlier attacks.

The Australian was quickly reeled back in. Christophe Laporte and Benoît Cosnefory, among others, couldn’t keep up with the peloton on the final passage up the Camilien-Houde. Adam Yates still had something left in the tank and attacked. Pavel Sivakov joined the British rider a bit later.

A small group of chasers raced to try and catch the escapees. Yates and Sivakov pushed hard, but the gap with the chasers was only 10 seconds. Nevertheless, they managed to stay ahead.
