The Jumbo-Visma team initially had their affairs well organized. However, due to the unexpected departure of Nathan Van Hooydonck, the exit of Primoz Roglic, and the doping case involving Michel Hessmann, the team will look for at least one new cyclist. A team must have at least 27 riders under contract, and currently, including Hessmann, 26 cyclists are part of Jumbo-Visma.
In an interview with the Dutch website WielerFlits, sports director Merijn Zeeman stated that Jumbo-Visma really needs to enter the market unexpectedly.
“We are evaluating our options, and if a cyclist fits our ideas and standards, we will consider them. Nathan was an extremely valuable asset to us. It will be difficult to replace him now. However, we already have alternatives for the spring season with Jan Tratnik and Matteo Jorgenson, among others.”
Investing in the Jumbo-Visma Development Team
The team is also putting its faith in its development squad, with a focus on talent Per Strand Hagenes. “A talent deserves the opportunity, and Per will certainly get it,” Zeeman told WielerFlits. Jumbo-Visma is primarily seeking a versatile rider. Tijmen Graat, Menno Huising, and Jørgen Nordhagen may be transferred from the development team, as they already have contracts with the team until 2025.
