Rüdiger Selig, the 34-year-old German, will compete for the Astana Qazaqstan Team in 2024. In the last two seasons, he held a prominent position in Caleb Ewan’s sprint train at Lotto Dstny. However, now he faces the challenge of helping Mark Cavendish achieve victory in the upcoming season.
The experienced Selig is known as an excellent lead-out man for sprints. In the past, he has worked with sprint star Alexander Kristoff at Katusha, and at BORA-hansgrohe, he was an essential part of the sprint trains for Sam Bennett and Pascal Ackermann. In the last two seasons, he served as the sprint lead for Caleb Ewan and Arnaud De Lie at Lotto Dstny.
Collaboration with Morkov and Cees Bol
The German will race alongside a sprint icon in the coming year: Mark Cavendish. “It’s a great opportunity for me to show what I can do in sprints. I believe that, with Michael Mørkøv and Cees Bol, we can form an excellent team for the cycling legend Mark Cavendish. Achieving significant victories with him and perhaps even making history.”
Selig will also assist the team’s new sprinter
“I think we’ll have a great combination of experience and strength,” said Selig, who won’t be working alone with Cavendish. “I’d also like to help the team’s new sprinter, Max Kanter, in his development as a sprinter. I’m really looking forward to the start of the new season.”
