Thymen Arensman, after a serious accident, says: “He saved my life”

Thymen Arensman gave his first account of the serious accident that occurred at the Vuelta a España. The co-leader of the INEOS Grenadiers team suffered a severe accident during the seventh stage, just five kilometers from the finish line, and had to be transported by ambulance. “I was incredibly lucky,” he shared on his Instagram profile. “My helmet probably saved my life.”

“Besides hurting all over, I have a headache and a broken tooth, but it seems nothing is broken,” says Arensman from the hospital.

“I can’t remember anything of what happened. I woke up in the hospital, and I must have been unconscious for a few hours. I don’t look like my usual self right now because of the stitches and the damage to my face. Also, with a broken tooth, but I consider it a battle scar.”

Arensman concludes with a greeting to his teammates. “Things are going relatively well. Now I will cheer for my teammates while I try to fully recover. Goodbye!”

Arensman leaves the hospital.

Arensman was allowed to leave the hospital on Saturday morning. He then visited his teammates at the hotel to support them. “I still have some headaches, so I’ll take it easy,” he says. “My girlfriend is here as well, and today we’ll be heading back to the Netherlands. I’m really happy about that.”
