In a stage that was expected to feature a massive sprint, as the route was mostly downhill, that’s precisely what occurred. Throughout the stage, all attempted breakaways were unsuccessful.
Actually, the only success belonged to Kaden Groves, during an intermediate sprint, where the Alpecin Deceuninck cyclist triumphed once more. Watch the sprint:
By winning the intermediate sprint, Kaden Groves further extended his lead in the battle for the green jersey in the points classification.
However, Thymen Arensman (INEOS Grenadiers) had to be transported by ambulance after an accident in the final kilometers of the stage (Cycling News will be providing updates on the athlete’s condition). Watch the fall:
And the victory in the sprint went to Geoffrey Soupe (TotalEnergies). Orluis Aular (Caja Rural Seguros RGA) finished in 2nd place, and Edward Theuns (Lidl Trek) completed the podium in 3rd position.
