World Champion and former leader abandons Vuelta a España after crash.

Lorenzo Milesi (Team DSM-Firmenich) withdrew from the Vuelta a España this Thursday. The Italian, who is the U23 world champion in time trial from Glasgow, crashed at the beginning of the sixth stage.

Milesi got back on his bike and attempted to continue in the race, but quickly realized that it wasn’t truly feasible anymore. The DSM-Firmenich team is expected to provide an update on the Italian’s injuries later.

Despite his withdrawal, Milesi will have fond memories of his Vuelta. The Italian played a crucial role in his team’s victory in the opening time trial, after which he wore the red leader’s jersey, even if only for a day.
