Vuelta a España 2023: Preview of the 6th stage, with a mountain-top finish and potential differences in the general classification

After a few days of descending routes, the 6th stage will be heading uphill once again. The last day of August is used to ascend the Alto de Javalambre for the second time in Vuelta’s history. Ángel Madrazo claimed victory at this location in 2019.

The stage is on a constant incline up to the base of Alto de Javalambre (11.5km at 7.6%). The initial kilometers are fairly gentle, but after four kilometers, the real climbing begins. The ascent takes riders to just under 2,000 meters and will lead to considerable differences with a substantial number of sections exceeding 10%. The defining zone is the “Picón del Buitre,” the Vulture’s Peak, encompassing the final 5km with considerable stretches above ten percent.

6th Stage (August 30th) La Vall d’Uixó – Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre (183.1 km)
