Eduardo Sepúlveda made his mark in history on this day. The Argentine cyclist achieved a remarkable feat by stepping onto the podium wearing the blue polka-dot jersey after the conclusion of the fourth stage of the Vuelta. This accomplishment had never been achieved by any other Argentine cyclist before.
In fact, Sepúlveda is the first rider from Argentina to wear the leader’s jersey in a three-week tour. His fellow countrymen Maximiliano Richeze and Juan José Haedo had previously won stages in the 2007 Giro and the 2011 Vuelta, respectively.
Sepúlveda earned his KOM jersey after two strong attack attempts. The Lotto Dstny rider secured ten mountain points yesterday at the top of Col d’Ordino, bringing him level on points with Remco Evenepoel. By adding six extra points today, he ultimately claimed the lead of the coveted blue polka-dot jersey.
