Remco Evenepoel didn’t seem too bothered by the fall right after the third stage of the Vuelta. Before the start of the fourth stage, the Belgian champion mentioned that the organization had apologized to him. “I think they realized they made a mistake.”
“The damage isn’t too bad with just two stitches on the outside, that’s it. I don’t have any muscle pain,” the Vuelta leader told the Belgian channel Sporza. “I looked at the images again, and from above, it’s clear that the distance after the finish yesterday was very short. The organization apologized for it; I think they realized they made a mistake.”
“The day is over, these things happen. Today is a new day; I’m just looking forward from now on. There are worse things in life than a hole in the head, so, all in all, I was lucky. The most important thing is that I managed to win a stage early in this Vuelta. That gives a lot of confidence,” Evenepoel said.
“I hope today will be a calm day, it certainly looks that way. Although it depends on what the teams decide. It’s been three hectic days; today could be a bit quieter.”
