There are rumors that Primoz Roglic is in negotiations with Lidl-Trek, which is looking for a climber who can win Grand Tours. Primoz Roglic has a contract with Jumbo-Visma until the end of 2025, but it’s not certain if he will stay with them until then.
Asked about Lidl-Trek’s interest, which has seen its budget increase significantly since German supermarket chain Lidl became the main sponsor, both his agent and the team confirmed there is interest.
“I can imagine that many teams would be interested in Primož, given the performance he is still delivering,” said Mattia Galli, Roglic’s agent, to Escape Collective website. “Primož has a contract with Jumbo-Visma until 2025 and he’s happy with the team, and there are no different intentions so far.”
Rumors of a potential move to INEOS Grenadiers also surfaced a few months ago. “All of this is hypothetical as we know Primož has a contract for the next year with Jumbo, but of course, he would be a great option for our team,” said Lidl-Trek manager Luca Guarcilena.
“It goes without saying that Roglic would fit well into our team. A rider with his track record and abilities would align with our vision. Someone like him can elevate a team to a higher level, just like Mads Pedersen does,” Guarcilena concluded.
Jumbo-Visma denies
Merijn Zeeman, sports director of Jumbo-Visma, denies it all. “No conversations have taken place, so I think it’s a completely ridiculous story,” he told the British network GCN. “Of course, we’re not letting him go. I’ve also understood from his coach that Roglic is happy with our team.”
Richard Plugge feels the same. “Primož has been our King since 2016.”
