Tijl De Decker has passed away. The 22-year-old Belgian cyclist from Lotto Dstny, winner of the Paris-Roubaix U23 and set to move up to the professional category next year, was involved in an accident with a passenger car during a training ride on Wednesday afternoon. The talented cyclist suffered severe injuries and lost a significant amount of blood, being taken to the hospital in critical condition. He had been in a coma since then. He passed away on Friday morning as a result of the accident.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tijl De Decker, as a result of a training accident last Wednesday. Our hearts are broken within the team with this news. We send all our love and thoughts to Tijl’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Lotto Dstny stated in a press release.
