Movistar Team had already revealed the selection of athletes for the Vuelta a España 2023, but had to make a change shortly before the start. Carlos Verona is ill, and therefore Imanol Erviti was called up as his emergency replacement.
Verona was considered by the Movistar team as one of the most significant contributors in supporting the competition’s leader, Enric Mas. However, due to an illness with the 30-year-old cyclist, he will not be able to participate in the start in Barcelona next Saturday. This information was conveyed to Spanish journalist Luis Guiné by the Movistar team’s press secretary.
Imanol Erviti has been called up to replace the versatile Spaniard. The 39-year-old Spaniard can now prepare for the 29th Grand Tour of his career and his 15th Vuelta a España. The experienced cyclist is particularly important as a road captain and helper, but he has also won a stage in the 2008 and 2010 editions of the Vuelta.
