Caleb Ewan (Jayco AlUla), started the 2024 Tour of Oman with a big victory, in a tight sprint. Five men formed the day’s escape, including two local Omani cyclists. However, with teams like Jayco AlUla and DSM-Firmenich PostNL controlling the pack, the gap never exceeded three minutes.
Escape and control of the platoon
With 30km remaining, only three of the day’s escapees remained at the front, about a minute ahead of a peloton that seemed to be just waiting for the right moment to complete the capture. It took a while, but with 11km to go, the capture was finally completed and a tight peloton raced towards the expected collective sprint finish.
The final sprint
It wasn’t a completely flat sprint, there was a slight climb to the finish line in the final kilometer, but that didn’t stop Caleb Ewan, who unleashed all his power, overcoming Bryan Coquard and Alexander Kristoff, who finished in 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
