Miguel Ángel López expresses outrage at not being able to compete in the Colombian National Championships

Miguel Ángel López was prevented from competing in the Colombian national championship, due to a provisional suspension imposed by the UCI, related to his alleged association with Dr. Marcos Maynar in the Spanish Operation Ilex, which links him to doping.

Even so, he expressed his outrage to the Colombian Cycling Federation via Instagram for not including him in the recent national championships. Last Thursday, Daniel Martínez won the gold medal in the Time Trial, succeeding López, who had won in 2023.

“Right now, I miss being on the starting line of the championship. I was very hopeful of at least being among the 2023 champions. But, surprise, thank you Fedeciclismo.”

Miguel Angel Lopez’s future in cycling will depend on the sentence that will be handed down in Spain in relation to Operation Ilex and his alleged involvement. The UCI has evidence of his guilt, obtained by the Spanish Guardia Civil, which prevented him from competing a few months ago, although his punishment is not yet definitive. He faces a 4-year ban, which will most likely mean the end of his career.
