There is no doubt that Johan Bruyneel and David Lappartient are not best friends. Lance Armstrong’s former sporting director publicly criticized the French UCI leader after Lappartient shared a video of himself and Tadej Pogacar in Abu Dhabi.
Lappartient and Tadej Pogacar
“Hello, I’m in Abu Dhabi and I’m very happy to be cycling here with Tadej”, the leader of the global cycling association addressed his X followers in a video with the UAE-Team Emirates cyclist.
Strong criticism of Bruyneel
Johan Bruyneel did not mince words when criticizing the president of the world’s highest cycling body.
“This omnipresent holy David, he is everywhere! The most important thing for him is to be seen alongside important and influential figures: the Pope, President Macron, the President of Korea, his friend Thomas Bach, the Ballon d’Or, and so on. Everything with a specific objective: the presidency of the IOC”, said the Belgian.
“What many people know, but no one ever says: he’s not very interested in riding a bike”, accuses Bruyneel. ‘The worst thing is that he will succeed in the plan, because sooner or later he will get there.”
“Receiving half a million euros a year for doing nothing at the UCI”, reinforces Johan Bruyneel’s accusations.
Another term as president of the UCI
A little later, Bruyneel adds that Lappartient opened the door for himself to a fourth period as UCI president.
“A new article has been added to the UCI statutes, according to which the congress can decide on a fourth term. This Congress is under your control. We all know what will happen, although he could already be president of the IOC.”
