Luke Plapp, at 23 years old, secured his third consecutive title in the Australian road competition this Sunday. He crossed the finish line in Buninyong, leading the Jayco AlUla team in a remarkable performance. He attributed the victory to a collective effort, highlighting the team’s excellence.
Great teamwork
A “great team performance”: that was Plapp’s conclusion on the team’s website. “The Australians are back, GreenEDGE is back! That was really great. We had everything under control from the start. We really enjoyed ourselves. I can’t thank my teammates enough.”
“The goal was to control the race from start to finish. We knew that was possible. Once we had control, we didn’t let up. It was a great team effort. From Blake (Quick) in the early stages to Rudy (Porter) responding to attacks from the peloton. And then Kel (Kellan O’Brien), we were always attentive.”
During the breakaway, a teammate asks Plapp to slow down
Plapp broke away with his teammate Chris Harper on the 8th lap out of a total of 16, and the two rode until the end. Plapp was the first to cross the finish line, with Harper in second. “It was really a team effort, everyone contributed,” recalls Harper.
Harper felt who was the strongest in the end. “Plappy really flew in the final lap. So I asked if he could slow down a bit. I can look back on a great day and a good result for our team.”
