Abundant rains in the past weeks are devastating Gullegem in the Wevelgen region of West Flanders. The Hexia Cross, to be held there this Saturday, will be contested on a shorter circuit, as some sections of the route are completely submerged.
Amusing images from former Belgian champion and current youth coach Klaas Vantornout on social media showcase how deeply certain parts of the Cyclocross course in Gullegem are flooded. The organization has already announced that the course will be adjusted.
Without Pidcock
Another issue is the cancellation of Tom Pidcock. The British cyclist is unwell and did not participate in Koksijde. “Of course, it’s a pity. Now we’re trying to get a significant name to the start. Whether that will work is another question.” The provisional highlights are Michael Vanthourenhout and Thibau Nys.
