Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) content with 2nd place at the Vuelta a Burgos.

Adam Yates pushed his limits to the maximum, but victory narrowly eluded him. Facing a formidable Primoz Roglic, the cyclist from UAE Team Emirates had to settle for second place in the Vuelta a Burgos.

“Overall, I’m content with the result. Of course, winning the stage would have been great, but we know how strong Roglic is in these situations,” admits Yates at the end of the day in Lagunas de Neila. “I gave it my all, and as a team, we rode well. I think we demonstrated that by winning the team prize. The entire week was scorching hot, which made the races a bit more challenging too.”

In the 3rd stage at Picon Blanco, Yates had already launched an attack against the Slovenian. The UAE Team Emirates had numerical advantage on their side, but ultimately, the climbs thwarted the team’s tactics, with Roglic consistently responding. In the final and most demanding stage, Domen Novak and Jay Vine created an opportunity for the Briton; however, Roglic and Aleksandr Vlasov matched the pace.

Yates secured second place both for the day and in the overall classification. This commendable performance adds to a string of consistent showings in his comeback post the Tour de France, where he finished in third place.

Yates will now contend in the Deutschland Tour, where he holds the reigning champion title. “We will now shift our focus to the remaining goals of the season,” he concludes.
