The Jumbo-Visma team has unveiled its lineup for the Vuelta a España. The goal is to secure victory in the Vuelta, right on the heels of their participations in the Giro and the Tour. The responsibility of achieving this feat rests upon Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic. Both leaders have been present from the outset, in Barcelona.
Sporting director Marc Reef stated, “They are embarking on the race as co-leaders.” Reef also highlighted that Roglic underwent a notably robust preparation, including a period of rest following the Giro, followed by high-altitude training and participation in the Vuelta a Burgos. On the other hand, Vingegaard took advantage of a rest period after his triumph in the Tour, swiftly transitioning to training, with reports indicating very promising outcomes.
The leaders can rightfully assert that they are well-supported, as Sepp Kuss and Wilco Kelderman will assist them during the climbs. Kuss and Kelderman also participated in the Tour. “Kuss, of course, suffered a late crash during the Tour, but his recovery has been swifter than anticipated. Following a period of rest, both Kuss and Kelderman were able to resume training, and we believe they are primed for action. They will play roles akin to those in the Tour.”
The remainder of the roster is rounded out by Attila Valter, Jan Tratnik, Robert Gesink, and Dylan van Baarle, who also took part in the Tour de France. “All four possess their own distinct qualities, but most importantly, they are exceedingly versatile. They will hold significant roles throughout the race, commencing with the team time trial in Barcelona.”
