Antonio Nibali, brother of Vincenzo Nibali, ends his professional career

The professional career of Antonio Nibali has come to an end. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 31-year-old Italian, primarily known as the brother of Giro, Tour, and Vuelta champion Vincenzo Nibali, has retired from professional cycling.

The younger Nibali entered professional cycling in 2015, initially competing for two years with the Nippo-Vini Fantini team. Subsequently, he went through various teams alongside his brother Vincenzo, including Bahrain-Merida (2017-2019), Trek-Segafredo (2020-2021), and Astana Qazaqstan (2022).

After Vincenzo’s retirement last year, Antonio stayed for one more season at Astana but couldn’t secure a new contract for 2024.

During his career, Antonio Nibali achieved a notable professional victory in 2018, in the seventh stage of the Tour of Austria. Additionally, he completed the Giro d’Italia on three occasions and the Vuelta a España twice.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport:

The 31-year-old cyclist told Gazzetta dello Sport: “If being called Nibali was an advantage or not? Answering is difficult. Certainly, the relationship opened many doors for me, but at the same time, expectations were higher, and comparisons inevitable. However, I didn’t let that influence me too much; few champions like Vincenzo are born, I always tried to give my best in the best possible way.”
