Cian Uijtdebroeks “was a sort of outsider in BORA; there was an ‘Anti-Cian’ WhatsApp group within the team”

Cian Uijtdebroeks appears to be ready to join the Visma team next year. He chose to leave BORA-hansgrohe, and one of the reasons for this decision may be related to facing bullying situations in the German team.

Outsider in BORA-Hansgrohe

“Several sources say that Uijtdebroeks was a sort of outsider in BORA,” says Thijs Zonneveld on the In het Wiel podcast.

“He was treated like a sort of nerd by the other cyclists, but also by the team bosses. That’s because he was very fanatic about certain things. He was assessing his diet, didn’t think his time trial bike was aerodynamic enough, didn’t think his clothes were good enough, so he bought different socks himself.”

“Anti-Cian app group”

“They thought he was too fanatic. He was like someone in high school who got an A because he studied well, only to hear, ‘Oh, you got an A again?!’ He was bullied. For example, during the Vuelta, there was also an ‘Anti-Cian’ app group without him, so they could gossip about him. It’s really very childish. He didn’t feel at home in that team,” concludes Thijs Zonneveld.
