The AG2R Citroën team continues to evolve (which will be Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team in 2024). With the arrival of new sponsors, new bikes, and new cyclists, the team is going through a phase of transformation.
New director had 4 participations in the Tour de France
The most recent change occurs in the role of sports director for Vincent Lavenu’s team. Taking over this position is none other than Sébastien Joly, a former professional cyclist from the Rhône-Alp region, who accumulated 12 years of experience in competitions, including 4 participations in the Tour de France.
After ending his cycling career, Joly transitioned to the administrative side of the sport, first becoming a sports director at Europcar and later at Groupama-FDJ. With eight seasons of experience in that role within Marc Madiot’s team, Joly now brings his expertise to AG2R, marking a new chapter in his career and contributing to the team’s development.
“I am very happy to join the team,” says Sébastien Joly. “Originally from Drôme and a resident of Haute-Savoie, I have always had a special affection for this team based in the heart of the Alps. I was seduced by the new project and the combined ambitions of DECATHLON and AG2R LA MONDIALE.
My mission will be to work with the sprint group and bring my experience to the time trials, in collaboration with the team’s coaches. I am looking forward to joining the group for the first meeting in Spain, which starts next week.”
