Lenny Martinez of Groupama FDJ entered the professional cycling world through the front door. The climber from Cannes quickly asserted himself among the elite by showcasing his climbing skills.
Having secured his first professional victory atop the Géant de Provence during the CIC Mont Ventoux, the son of Miguel Martinez also demonstrated his abilities in WorldTour stage races (Vuelta a Catalunya, Tour de Pologne, etc.), not to mention his standout moment of the season when he wore the red leader’s jersey in the Vuelta a España during the first week.
In an interview with the French website Cyclism’Actu on Thursday, he reflected on his season. “It was a first year beyond my expectations; I can only be satisfied. I am very happy to have won a race and to have worn the leader’s jersey in a Grand Tour. Overall, I loved everything about this first year,” confides the young cyclist.

Martinez, who will not be 21 when the Grande Boucle starts from Florence on Saturday, June 29, shows an awareness of the difference between the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España.
“I don’t necessarily want to do the Tour at the moment. I am still young, I still have a lot of time ahead, so I am not necessarily in a hurry to do it,” concludes the French cyclist, who will leave in a few days for Calpe, Spain, to participate in the first winter Training Camp of Groupama-FDJ.”
