The INEOS Grenadiers team has officially announced the extension of Geraint Thomas’s contract for two more seasons. The winner of the 2018 Tour de France has confirmed what was already expected: his stay with the team until 2025, continuing to be a part of the group with which he achieved his greatest successes in the sport.
Thomas confirmed this with a message on social media: “The show goes on. That’s right, you have me for two more years. @INEOSGrenadiers has always been my second home, and I still love racing my bike, so I never thought about doing anything else. Now it’s about deciding what to do next season…”
Thomas also discussed the extension of his contract on his podcast, The Geraint Thomas Cycling Club. “I’m super happy. I’m 37 years old. That’s quite old for a professional athlete. But I think I’m still performing well, except for the Vuelta. But look at the Giro, where I still had a lot of success. I was very close to victory. And I still enjoy training and racing a lot. (…) I was initially thinking of one year, but during the negotiations, I said, ‘Why not two?’ Two days later, they came back and said, ‘Two years is fine.'”
