The Colombian Walter Vargas, who competes for Team Medellin EPM, won the individual time trial at the Pan American Games in Santiago. Richard Carapaz had to settle for the second position in the race. The Ecuadorian cyclist, the only representative of the WorldTour in the competition, was surpassed by the Colombian.
The Individual Time Trial event of the Pan American Games took place in the city of Santiago, the capital of Chile. Walter Vargas secured the victory by completing the 40.2 km course, consisting of two laps on a local circuit.
The 31-year-old cyclist from the Medellin-EPM team, who had already claimed the Pan American Time Trial title for the fourth time earlier in the year by defeating Miguel Ángel López, this time, defeated Carapaz by a margin of 34 seconds. Conor White from Bermuda secured the third place.
