Movistar continues series of signings, announcing a cyclist who hasn’t won as a professional for 2024

Jon Barrenetxea is the latest addition to the Movistar Team. The talented Spaniard is leaving Caja Rural-Seguros RGA and has signed a two-year contract with his new WorldTour-level team. He expressed his excitement, stating: “I want to learn from my teammates; they have a great level.”

No professional victories

Barrenetxea, a 23-year-old rider, has not yet secured a professional victory. His best result was a third-place finish in the Boucles de l’Aulne-Châteaulin, where he was only beaten by Greg Van Avermaet and Florian Vermeersch.

“I am very proud to sign with Movistar. It also brings great responsibility. I am very grateful to Caja Rural for the trust they placed in me to take the step into the professional ranks. I have learned a lot from them,” says Barrenetxea.

“Last season, I confirmed that I can have a great professional career, something that is always in doubt when you take risks. My ambition for the future is to continue growing as a cyclist, always seeking improvement. Now I want to learn from my new teammates, who have a great level.”
