Davide Formolo’s transfer has been a topic of discussion for some time, and now it has been officially confirmed by the Spanish team. Formolo was the fifth signing by Movistar Team in the last 24 hours, joining Manlio Moro, Carlos Canal, Pelayo Sanchez, and Javier Romo. With the acquisition of Formolo, Movistar has added a high-level climber to the team.
Good Results in 2023
The Italian’s high level was evident once again last season when Formolo won the Coppa Agostoni and the Veneto Classic. Throughout this year, Formolo also achieved second place in the Saudi Tour, fifth place in the Memorial Marco Pantani, sixth place in the Giro della Toscana and the Italian Road Championships, and ninth place in the Strade Bianche.
A new role at Movistar
At UAE Team Emirates, he primarily worked in support of leaders like Tadej Pogacar, Juan Ayuso, and Adam Yates, but with his new employer, Movistar Team, he will have a new role. “It’s the ideal team for me,” says Formolo. “I believe I can play an important role as a leader in a Grand Tour, but I can also pursue results, for example, in one-day races. I look forward to it.”
